Samantha Fox Biography:
Samantha
Karen Fox was born April 15, 1966, in Mile End, London, to parents Patrick
and Carole. Growing up in a middle class family, Samantha had two childhood
dreams: to become a policewoman or a singer. One of these has already been
achieved.
But her fame came from another another direction, and can be attributed to
fate and her sexy looks. As a young high school student, Fox was discovered by
the Sun tabloid while studying for her final exams. After her first
appearance as a topless model in the "Page 3" feature of the
paper, her popularity took off.
Samantha Fox's work as a "Page 3" girl for many years made her famous, but
Fox wanted to follow her dream of singing professionally, and in 1985, that dream came true.
Her debut album, aptly titled "Touch Me", was released in 1987 and went
gold after the release of the first song, "Touch Me (I Want Your
Body)." With the aid of appealing and controversial lyrics, the song sold more than
five million copies worldwide, and helped make Samantha Fox an
international superstar.
Fox's celebrity grew even more with a guest appearance on MTV in the United
States, and her centerfold status didn't hurt either. Her second album,
"Samantha
Fox" was released in 1987, and regardless of the critics' calling her a former
porno and nude model trying to be a singer, Fox proved the critics wrong by creating
a large a fan base. "Samantha Fox" yielded the smash hit "Naughty Girls
(Need Love Too)" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now."
Samantha's winning streak continued with the release of her third album,
"I Wanna
Have Some Fun", in 1988. Again, Samantha Fox gained great success with "Next To
Me" and "Love House," but the success and praise were never
among critics.
The duration of the '90s were marked by even more album releases,
such as 1991's "Just One Night" and the album "Hurt Me, Hurt Me", and
1992's Greatest Hits (featuring the hits "I Only Wanna Be With
You" and "Do Ya Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)."
Samantha Fox left the music scene for a while, as she revamped her
image and her sound to a more confident, cleaned style, which purportedly included a breast
reduction, to go with her equally confident album, "21st
Century Fox", released in 1997.
The album has spawned the hit singles "Wasted Energy," "Let
Me Be Free" and "Santa Maria."
Although Samantha Fox wasn't working on her music, she was working on other
projects, namely moving to acting with appearances in 1994's "Rock Dancer"
and 1999's "The Match", and cameos in "Frontline" and
"The Frank
Skinner Show".
Samantha Fox in Playboy
Speaking of skin, the most famous Page 3 Girl to date was
invited by the Sun to pose for the feature's 25th Anniversary. She
posed five times -- once for every day of the week -- in a different pose,
and the first topless picture was enlarged to poster size. Men around the world
didn't have to worry, as Samantha Fox also posed nude for Playboy Magazine in
1996, the last time she would pose naked. But it seemed that the world
wanted to see Samantha Fox naked, and that months edition of Playboy
Magazine, with Fox as the centerfold, was one of the fastest selling issues
in Playboy Magazine history. Samantha Fox was a popular Playmate.
After her nude Playboy Magazine photo shoot and centerfold there
was a bit of confusion in Hollywood. There was another "Samantha
Fox" on the scene, but this performer was not the sweet little girl who
became a singer. The other Samantha Fox was the queen of porno videos,
appearing nude and naked in countless direct-to-video porn and adult
projects since the 1980's. There was a time when fans confused the singer
"Fox" with the porn star "Fox", and some critics
believed it may have actually helped the singers career. Samantha Fox, the
singer, had to reassure the press and her fans that she would never take
part in an adult movie. In time, the controversy disappeared.
In 2002 Samantha Fox put out another album, "Watching You,
Watching Me". Then, in 2005, she released "Angel With An Attitude"
and, in 2007, re-released the album with two additional bonus
tracks.
In 2007 Samantha Fox toured Australia as part of the "Countdown Spectacular
2", a series of concerts reviving the nostalgia of the Australian music
television series Countdown. It was the first time she'd ever
performed an arena-style concert.
