Sandra Bullock Biography And Filmography:
After being cast as the female lead role in the small independent film "Who Shot Patakango?" (1989), Bullock saw her feature movie career began to take off. She co-starred in the romantic comedy "Love Potion No. 9" with renowned actress Anne Bancroft and gave a fine performance as a skeptical feminist artist in "When the Party's Over" (1992). "Demolition Man” with Wesley Snipes, combined with her role as an aspiring country singer in Peter Bogdanovich's "The Thing Called Love" starring sexy River Phoenix (1993), introduced her to a larger audience, making it possible for Bullock to carry a major motion picture for the first time as Annie, the hesitant bus driver opposite Keanu Reeves and Dennis Hopper, in the blockbuster "Speed" (1994). Her natural sense of humor, intelligence and general personality helped intensify what could have been a generic "girl" role, allowing her to receive most of the flicks good media reviews.. In a role initially planned for the overpriced Demi Moore, Bullock starred in the romantic comedy "While You Were Sleeping" (1995), a smash hit co-starring Bill Pullman and Peter Gallagher as the two points in a love triangle. Now a hot Hollywood sexy celebrity and movie star, Bullock was likewise skilled in a Julia Roberts style role as a clumsy computer operator stumbling into a major scheme in "The Net" (1995). Bullock next starred in the comedy "Two If By Sea" (1996, opposite Denis Leary), and then a dramatic supporting role as a law student who finds herself involved with a married attorney (Matthew McConaughey) she is working with in Joel Schumacher's feature version of the John Grisham's best-seller "A Time to Kill" with a blockbuster cast including Samuel L. Jackson and Kiefer Sutherland (1996).
Regrettably, Richard Attenborough's "In Love and War" (1996), based on the real life romance between novelist Ernest Hemingway (Chris O'Donnell) and the nurse he wrote about in "A Farewell to Arms,” showed to be a disappointment with the actress miscast as the older woman. Equally bad was the expected sequel "Speed 2: Cruise Control" (1997), which teamed her with Jason Patric and Willem Dafoe on a luxury liner controlled by a lunatic. Bullock wrote, produced, directed and co-starred in "Making Sandwiches" (1997) opposite McConaughey, a one hour short flick previewed at the Sundance Film Festival. As executive producer of "Hope Floats" with Harry Connick Jr. (1998), she showed she had the talent as the type of "every woman" role that had gained her so much attention. Later that year, the actress lent her voice talents to the character of Miriam in DreamWorks animated bible tale "The Prince of Egypt" with other celebrity voices provided by the likes of Val Kilmer, Michelle Pfieffer, Jeff Goldblum, Danny Glover, Patrick Stewart and Steve Martin. Sandra then co-starred with Nicole Kidman as sisters who use witchcraft to solve their romantic troubles in "Practical Magic". Bullock continued to show her confidence by joining with Ben Affleck in the romantic movie "Forces of Nature" (1999). Sandra then played the role of a New York City writer and party girl sentenced to "28 Days" of drug and alcohol rehabilitation after stealing a limousine and crashing it into a house. She next overwhelmed audiences with a role as an FBI agent posing as an elegant beauty queen in the romantic comedy "Miss Congeniality". Teamed with Benjamin Bratt, Bullock further showed to be a great comedic actress. She then revisited the role for the 2005 sequel, "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" (2005), this time posing as a Las Vegas show girl.
Sandra Bullock was busy for the next few years taking on numerous roles in quick succession. In 2002, she starred as a homicide detective in "Murder by Numbers," and as a southern writer in the film edition of "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood." She next returned to her romantic comedy background, starring with Hugh Grant in "Two Weeks Notice" (2002), with the actress playing the secretary to a thoughtless industrialist who doesn't value the loving care she gives him. Bullock then had a very quick role in the racially charged drama "Crash" with Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon and Jennifer Esposito (2005) with Bullock playing a middle aged white Los Angeles woman of opportunity who, after a disturbing carjacking, furiously acts out on all of her worst prejudice and racial fears. The actress then played To Kill a Mockingbird author Nelle Harper Lee opposite Toby Jones as Truman Capote in the movie "Infamous" starring Sigourney Weaver (2006)m and then reunited with her "Speed" co-star Keanu Reeves for "The Lake House" (2006), as a doctor who lives in the same house two years apart in time, and falls in love by writing letters they exchange through a mailbox that mysteriously bridges the gap in time. In “Premonition” (2007), Bullock gave a strong performance as a wife and mother living the perfect family life who is driven mad by knowledge of impending events, including the tragic death of her husband (Julian McMahon) in a car accident. She soon realizes that their wonderful life may not have been as it appeared.
