Jessica Alba Biography: Jessica Alba was born in Pomona,
California, on April 28, 1981. Her family relocated to Biloxi,
Mississippi while she was still a young girl. Her father later relocated the children to Del Rio, Texas.
The family
settled down in southern California when she was ten years old and she had always
wanted to be an actress as long as she could remember. She took her first acting
and drama lessons at the age of thirteen. Not long after that, she was
hired by a management and talent agency.
Also in 1994, she was hired and cast for the part of Maya for the pilot "Flipper." She spent 1995 filming the first season of "Flipper" in Australia. The actress is a certified scuba diver and the "Flipper" project allowed her to dive and interact with with the dolphins used during the production. The success of the first season of "Flipper" lead to a successful second season, which she also starred. Her work in "Flipper" lasted from 1995-1998 when the series was cancelled. Since then, she has appeared in a variety of television shows and films. In 1996, she worked on the film "Venus Rising" as
the young adolescent girl Eve. Also in 1996, she appeared in an episode of "Chicago
Hope", as Maria. During 1997, she was seen on the "Dini Petty
Show", a Canadian television talk and variety show, and spoke about her role in Flipper and
her overall desire to act in films and movies. She began working on
"P.U.N.K.S.", featuring Randy
Quaid, in 1998. "P.U.N.K.S." was released on video DVD in January,
1999 and has sold well.
Many more magazines, movie and film offers stared to flood her mailbox. Shortly after the release of her previous movies, she was hired for the leading role in "Paranoia" (2000) about the stressed top model Chloe who is invited by a friend to a dinner party with some friends of his in a house not far from London, she received good reviews for this film. Shortly after "Paranoia" she started production on what would possibly be her largest role and most exposure to the Hollywood limelight. She auditioned for the leading role in "Dark Angel", a television show about a group of genetically enhanced young children who escape from a laboratory project. Years later we meet Max, one of the escaped children who now works for a messenger service in the Pacific Northwest. She caught the attention of famous producer and director James Cameron (Titanic) and was cast as the lead role of the series bringing her status up to sexy Hollywood celebrity. With the huge success of "Dark Angel" and its millions of fans and cult clubs, she was no longer just a rising star, she was among the Hollywood elite - a super star. Her opportunities expanded along with her success, following the cancellation of “Dark Angel”, much of it to do with her sexy hot body and gorgeous looks. In 2001, she became a spokeswoman for L'Oreal hair products and in 2003, she starred in the film "The Sleeping Dictionary" (2003) about a young Englishman who is sent to Sarawak to become part of the British colonial government. Her first major suggestion of her big screen status came in the form of "Honey" (2003), about Honey who is a sexy, music video choreographer who shakes up her life after her mentor gives her an ultimatum: sleep with him or be blacklisted from the business.
Her third film of 2005, the diving drama "Into the Blue" (2005) opposite Paul Walker, about a group of divers who find themselves in deep trouble with a drug lord after they come upon the illegal cargo of a sunken airplane. Her frequent bikini scenes and sexy body made this film enjoyable and cemented her status as Hollywood's breakout sex symbol of 2005 complete. After taking a year away from film making, she returned with the comedy "The Ten" (2007) with Adam Brody, about ten different stories, each inspired by one of the ten commandments. Her next film was the sequel "Rise of the Silver Surfer" (2007) where the Fantastic Four learn that they aren't the only super-powered beings in the universe when they square off against the powerful Silver Surfer and the planet-eating Galactus. She then took a small role in the comedy "Good Luck Chuck" (2007) before being hired for the starring role in the comedy "Bill" (2007), about a man fed up with his job and married to a cheating wife who reluctantly mentors an unruly teen. She wrapped up the year starring with Hayden Christensen in the horror thriller "Awake" (2007), about a man who suffers "anesthetic awareness" and finds himself awake and aware, but paralyzed, during heart surgery. His young wife must wrestle with her own demons as a drama unfolds around them.
She started the following year with another horror thriller in "The Eye" (2008), the remake of the Hong Kong film "Jian Gui", about a woman who receives an eye transplant that allows her to see into the supernatural world. She struck gold as the lead role in the star-packed comedy "The Love Guru" (2008) about Pitka, an American raised outside of his country by gurus, who returns to the States in order to break into the self-help business. His first job - to settle the romantic troubles and professional disaster of a star hockey player whose wife left him for a rival athlete. The tremendous cast included big-hitters like Mike Myers, Justin Timberlake, and Jessica Simpson. She wrapped the year with the sequel "Sin City 2" (2009) with Antonio Banderas, where in the dark bowels of Sin City, Dwight plans to have his vengeance against the woman who betrayed him, Ava Lord, while Nancy is trying to cope with Hartigan's death.
