Courtney Cox Biography And Filmography:

A very slim, dark haired actress of television and film, Courtney Cox first hit with audiences when she was picked from the crowd by Bruce Springsteen in the video for The Boss' hit 1984 single "Dancing in the Dark". Jobs for the prominent Ford Modeling Agency and appearances in Noxzema and Maybelline television commercials and a small role on the CBS soap opera "As the World Turns" before the video, after which Cox was hired for a  role in the primetime television series "Misfits of Science".

She then joined the cast of the smash hit sitcom "Family Ties" for the final two seasons (1987-89) as the academic girlfriend of Alex P Keaton (Michael J Fox). She made the jump to the movie screen, appearing in the adventure film "Down Twisted" and the kid's sci-fi heroic "Masters of the Universe" (1987), and "Cocoon: The Return" (1988), none of which did well with critics or audiences.

For most of the 80s and 90s, she switched between television and feature films, often trading on her young good looking qualities. While she landed the female lead opposite Jim Carrey in the smash hit "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" (1994), she was overshadowed by the antics of her co-star. She finally realized television stardom as the phobic wannabe chef Monica Geller, acting as the anchor of the group, in the hit sitcom "Friends" (1994-2004), originally seen as the star of the show, she easily blended into the growing ensemble cast and, after a few seasons of playing Monica fairly straight, She showed her comedy skill as the character's quirks emerged. She did well working alongside co-star and fellow friend Jennifer Aniston,

The actress showed her dramatic talents as a blind rape victim in the movie "Sketch Artist II: Hands that See" (1995) before becoming the first of the "Friends" cast to score a big screen hit with Wes Craven's "Scream" (1996) about a psychopathic serial killer who is stalking a group of young teens just like in the old horror movies. Cast as the savvy, go-getting television newscaster Gale Weathers, she delivered a great performance and she reprised the part in the inevitable sequels "Scream 2" (1997) and "Scream 3" (2000). Regrettably, "Commandments" (1997), in which she played the miserable wife of Anthony LaPaglia, starting on a love affair with her brother-in-law (Aidan Quinn), failed to use the flexibility she displayed in the Craven movies.

After a string of roles in unimpressive films - "3000 Miles to Graceland" with Kevin Costner, "The Shrink Is In", about a young woman who masquerades as a shrink to win over her Prince Charming. and the "Get Well Soon" (all 2001), she focused mostly on her television series and her marriage to her "Scream" co-star David Arquette, whom she married in 1999 and added the Arquette name to her professional credits. Cox-Arquette then starred in the dramatic mystery thriller "November" (2004) about a woman who is going through the most difficult time of her life. Now, she just has to find out if it's real. She then had a small uncredited role in the Adam Sandler remake of "The Longest Yard" (2005).

The following year had her lending her voice talents to the animated film "Barnyard" (2006) a funny film about when the farmer's away, and how all the animals play, and sing, and dance. Eventually, though, someone has to step in and run things, a responsibility that ends up going to Otis, a carefree cow. The actress then starred with Tim Allen in the action thriller "Zoom" (2006) with Chevy Chase, about a former superhero who is called back to work to transform an unlikely group of ragtag young kids into superheroes at a private Academy. She then appeared in a horror film directed by husband David Arquette titled "The Tripper" (2006) about a Ronald Reagan obsessed serial killer who targets a bunch of hippies who are heading to a weekend-long concert.

She then returned to television series work with the smash hit show "Dirt" (2007-) where fame and celebrity have a price and she is there to collect as a tabloid editor and her photographer try to make their way in the world of celebrity journalism. While working on the series, she appeared in the comedy film "Bedtime Stories" (2008) starring Adam Sandler, a family comedy about a hotel handyman whose life changes when the lavish bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to magically come true. The actress wrapped the year with "The Big Change" (2009) playing a Southern socialite who struggles to adjust to her daughter's embracing of hip-hop culture.
