Valerian and lorazepam may cause an adverse interaction.
Valerian may potentiate the effects of antiepileptic medications, increasing
their sedative and cognitive effects.
Valerian should not be used concomitantly with barbiturates because excessive
sedation may occur.
May produce sensations of "strangeness" in some individuals. These
persons should not use valerian.
In extremely high doses, valerian may cause paralysis and weakening of the
heartbeat. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
The concomitant use of opioid analgesics with the sedative herbal supplements,
valerian, kava and chamomile, may lead to increased central nervous system
(CNS) depression.
